Last update 26/1/2023

Your privacy is important to us at ORC. We developed this Privacy Policy to provide you with information on how we process your personal data when you use ORC websites and when your boat's certificate is issued by your local rating office or the ORC central rating office.

Categories of Personal Data Processed by ORC

Personal data that is processed when you register with ORC Sailor Services:

When registering, we ask you to provide your email address and name. If you wish you can choose to provide your first name or a nickname instead of your full name.

We process your email address because you use it along with your password to sign in on Sailor Services. Your password itself is initially transmitted to the email address you provided. We need to process your email address in order to protect the security of your account.

We also process your email address to deliver to you the digital products you ordered for us, such as the ORC Speed Guide and the Target Speeds, and update your account balance with Sailor Services credits or other products you purchase from the ORC and pay using Paypal or Stripe.

Furthermore, we may process your email address in order to send you other important information about your account security, about products that you have purchased from the ORC, and respond to your inquiries or requests or questions.

Personal data that is processed when you sign in to Sailor Services with social media credentials:

If you choose to sign in using your social media (such as Facebook or Google) credentials, the only information processed and retained is your email address and fullname. This information is made available to Sailor Services by the social media provider due to the way the social sign-on configuration works. If you do not want your information to be shared with Sailor Services by the social media provider, then you can simply sign in to your Sailor Services account using your Sailor Services credentials (email and password) instead of your social media account credentials.

Sailor Services associates the email address provided by the social media provider with your Sailor Services account so that you can use your email address to sign in to your Sailor Services account in the future if you no longer wish to sign in using your social media account credentials. Processing this information serves in providing you an alternative sign-in method and in securing your account.

Personal data that is processed when you subscribe to ORC mailing list:

If you subscribe to the ORC mailing list, ORC will process your email address for the purpose of sending you information about ORC championship and events as well as important sailing events worldwide. You may unsubscribe at any time from here by entering your email address, selecting "Unsubscribe" and clicking "Submit".

You may choose to provide your full name or a nickname, and simple information about your interests as a sailor and relation with the marine industry. This optional information is used anonymously to calculate statistics about the ORC community.

Personal data related to boat certificates:

If you are the owner of a boat holding an ORC rating certificate, your boat's data along with your personal data are transmitted to the ORC by the rating authority that collected these data and issued the certificate, which may be a national rating office or the ORC central rating office.

The selection of personal data included in the transmission are the sole responsibility of the rating authority that issued your certificate, not controlled by the ORC (excluding the ORC central rating office), and must include the full name of the entity who is the owner of the boat (a person or a company).

At the discretion of the local authority, the transmission may also include the following personal data:

  • The boats skipper's full name
  • Your home and/or work address
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number information (multiple numbers)
  • Yacht club membership information

We process these personal data because the ORC Rating Systems rule prescribes the owner's responsibility regarding the boat's conformance with her rating certificate and the voidness of the rating certificate in case of ownership change (article 304).

Personal data related to ORC Club certificate online applications:

If you have applied online for an ORC Club certificate for your boat, your boat's data along with your personal data are collected by the ORC central rating office.

These personal data include the full name of the entity who is the owner of the boat (a person or a company) as well as other data, as shown in the application https://www.orc.org/rating/clubapp.htm

We process these personal data because the ORC Rating Systems rule prescribes the owner's responsibility regarding the boat's conformance with her rating certificate and the voidness of the rating certificate in case of ownership change (article 304).
